Colors Find Each Other

Thought it fitting to photograph a painting I made as a follow up to yesterdays blip.

"The best reason to paint is that there is no reason to paint....I'd like to pretend that I've never seen anything, never read anything, never heard anything...and then make something....Every time I make something I think about the people who are going to see it and every time I see something, I think about the person who made it....Nothing is important...so everything is important."

Got into the studio and did a bit of work for class.
Went to the Warhol exhibit. Pretty cool actually. Never been a very big fan of his work, but what I saw was interesting.

Went and saw BalletMet's Dracula afterward. Really cool :)

Time Warp

It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Busy day!

Started off having breakfast with all 6 of my housemates.
Then studying with Carrie and Laura.
After that I went to the Purdue game.
Followed by Scott and Sophie's birthday party.
Finally wrapped up the night by seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Good fun :)

Went exploring

Fun but uneventful day spent with friends

"Autumn," by Garrison Keillor:

Here on an autumn night in the sweet orchard smell,
Sitting in a pile of leaves under the starry sky,
Oh what stories we could tell
With this starlight to tell them by.

October night, and you, and paradise,
So lovely and so full of grace,
Above your head, the universe has hung its lights,
And I reach out my hand to touch your face.

I believe in impulse, in all that is green,
Believe in the foolish vision that comes true,
Believe that all that is essential is unseen,
And for this lifetime I believe in you.

Fabric of Life

As I weave my fabric of relationships
I lose so many threads
The pattern seems so clear today
Only to be lost in the mists of time
I walk on the same road for a while
But soon we drift inexorably apart
I wonder where all those friends are
Where did their journeys take them
Sometimes I pick up a loose thread
Hoping I can still make a connection
I hope our paths will cross again
And we can walk hand in hand again
Who knows where life may have led me
I have walked but one of many paths
I think of all the conversations unfinished
And of all the paths left unexplored
But then I realize my folly
I am not the weaver but a thread
And a thread can never see the design
As the weaver unfolds the fabric of creation
He chooses what threads to use
If we could rise above we would know
There are no loose threads and no friends to lose
So I embrace the fabric of my relationships
They are a gift from the weaver of life

The Sky would Rain Down Roses

Roses by George Eliot
You love the roses - so do I. I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!

Abiding in the Vine

John 15:1-4

1I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

Stranger

Matthew 25:35-40

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

Fireworks

Light one end and watch it burn up. Once there is nothing but ash, the small flicker of a flame ignites the internal. It burns hot and sends the entire vessel launching into orbit. It rockets into the sky moving as fast as it can. Anything, Anything at all to get away from the ground and that spark that sent it on its way. Finally at a safe distance, far away and into the lonely and empty sky, it can explode. Fire, smoke, and an array of colors fill the sky but everyone can only look up in awe from the ground. So caught up by the sight and spectacle, the sound of the explosion seems to be nothing more than a mild pop from where they are sitting. Their ears are deaf because of how full their eyes are. However, all the spectators below are only interested in the explosion and the sensation. They forget the falling remains that tumble from the sky. That rocket that was so eager to get away from the earth must eventually return to it. Now it’s all used up. Nothing left but ashes and chard pieces. Nothing to save or treasure. Even the spectators have moved their eyes and thoughts to the next musing. All that built up energy, gone in an instance. The ruins left behind mean nothing. Only those who happened to get singed or held on during the explosion would remember. And few get that close, and even fewer can hang on. Other people forget. Colors fade. Ashes remain, but those can wash away in time. Even burns heal until only there’s only a faint scar. All you really even remember in time is the thrill or pain you experienced.

Word Art (2)

I was dreaming and I knew, because it happens so little, and in my dream I stood alone with my feet in the sand. The beach was warm from the sun and I began to walk along the shore toward a place where no one ever looked for me. As I journeyed farther away I felt the welcome of each step. The sand made each footstep soft and gentle. The wind blew and the waves crashed but they were not fierce and only added to the beauty of the scene. The sun began to fade away and slip behind the horizon but the minutes ticked by slowly. I stood and felt the sun on my skin. The water from a crashing wave washed up the shore line and drenched the sand before me. Such calmness and solitude. I never want to leave this place, I thought to myself. I sat down along the shore and decided to watch the sun disappear and bring forth the night. My feet were once again buried in the sand and the smell of salt water saturated my senses. I will always find peace in the smell of the sea. Slowly, and surely the sun began to set. But instead of the sky getting dark with each passing second it grew brighter. With confusion I stood up and wondered why. Then the sounds of my beloved ocean evaporated and were replaced by the droning sounds of my clock radio. It was just a dream, I sighed. But even still, I shut my eyes and tried to dream a little while longer.

Where in the world...

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

The question that has troubled youths for years. Because she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina. I hear she's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize. But I just want you to tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

And while we're at it, Where's Waldo?

Isn't it a strange coincidence that we can't find Waldo or Carmen…and they both seem to have gone missing around the same time…

I'll tell you what I think, partners in crime. We already know that Miss Sandiego is a thief. As soon as Waldo heard that everyone was looking for her he knew it was only a matter of time before the authorities started questioning him.

The thing that gets me though is if you're running from the law wouldn't you change your appearance a bit? Color your hair, ditch the glasses, lose the bright red clothes (or at the very least change your outfit…?) I suppose it doesn't matter. Even without doing that we still can't find them.

My opinion: They ran away together and are living it up in Amsterdam.

Thoughts to Think About

If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?

Would a fly without wings be called a "walk"?

The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It is twice as large as it needs to be.

Its bad luck to be superstitious.

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.

If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?

Have you ever noticed anyone going slower than you is an idiot and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

What's another word for thesaurus?

If quitters never win and winners never quit who came up with "Quit while your ahead"?

What happens if you get scared half to death twice?

If a person with multiple personalities threatens suicide, is that a hostage situation?

What is the speed of dark?

If you put a slinky on an escalator, would it go on forever?

Why is abbreviation such a long word?

Imagine a world without hypothetical situations.

NEW Blog!

Check out my newest creation!

http://christinamorrell.blogspot.com

I've started to upload some of my art work to another blog.

I felt that not only was this site important as a tool to gather all the funny little musings of my creativity, but the work is just as important.

As of right now, most of what I've loaded is school-project related pieces. Soon though, I'll be adding my personal projects which is where the strongest links from these posting will come from. Perhaps the links from these posts to my work will only be understood by me, but that's just how my brain works. If you don't get it then I guess the voices in your head don't explain things to you as well as my voices do.

Unexplained: Intuition

Whether we call it gut feelings, a 'sixth sense,' or something else, we have all experienced intuition at one time or another. Of course, gut feelings are often wrong (how many times during aircraft turbulence have you been sure your plane was going down?), but they do seem to be right much of the time. Psychologists note that people subconsciously pick up information about the world around us, leading us to seemingly sense or know information without knowing exactly how or why we know it. But cases of intuition are difficult to prove or study, and psychology may only be part of the answer.

Unexplained: Deja vu

Deja vu is a French phrase meaning 'already seen,' referring to the distinct, puzzling, and mysterious feeling of having experienced a specific set of circumstances before. A woman might walk into a building, for example, in a foreign country she'd never visited, and sense that the setting is eerily and intimately familiar. Some attribute deja vu to psychic experiences or unbidden glimpses of previous lives. As with intuition, research into ,human psychology can offer more naturalistic explanations, but ultimately the cause and nature of the phenomenon itself remains a mystery.

19.4.08

Unexplained: Near-Death Experiences and Life After Death

People who were once near death have sometimes reported various mystical experiences (such as going into a tunnel and emerging in a light, being reunited with loved ones, a sense of peace, etc.) that may suggest an existence beyond the grave. While such experiences are profound, no one has returned with proof or verifiable information from "beyond the grave." Skeptics suggest that the experiences are explainable as natural and predictable hallucinations of a traumatized brain, yet there is no way to know with certainty what causes near-death experiences, or if they truly are visions of "the other side."

False: Lightning never strikes the same place twice

In fact lightning favors certain spots, particularly high locations. The Empire State Building is struck about 25 times every year. Ben Franklin grasped the concept long ago and mounted a metal rod atop the roof of his home, then ran a wire to the ground, thereby inventing the lightning rod.
